IMPORTANT TAX FILING REMINDER:

ALL Cherry Creek School District PTOs and PTCOs have their annual IRS 990 filing due Thursday, November 15th!

Colorado State Annual Report on Colorado Solicitations using 990-EZ data is also due on November 15th.

Clarification: there is not a Colorado State Tax Return for your Fiscal Year. The Annual Solicitations Report is the filing that is required. ALSO NOTE: The $10 Colorado State Periodic Report Filing that occurs annually is NOT the same as the $10 Annual Report. One (Periodic Report) updates your business and keeps the nonprofit as a declared business with an address and a person to contact and is legally required (mine is due in February so it varies by organization) -  while the other (Annual Report) is part of the Charitable Solicitations Act, also due annually (with the 990), legally required and is also a $10 Fee.

State Part:

After not being able to find our parent organization's annual form a few years back, I called the state and here is what I found about this:

To reach the threshold to file your annual solicitations form: you must solicit over $25,000 in contributions for the year or solicit from more than 10 people in a year. Our parent organization doesn't do either so we do not have to file. Otherwise you are required to file the report. Click here for link.  Once complete, please save/print and email to documents@ccparentscouncil.org

Purpose of the report

The Colorado Charitable Solicitations Act ("The Act") requires charities and paid solicitors that ask for contributions in Colorado to file registration documents with the Secretary of State's Office and requires that the Secretary of State compile and publish an annual report on charitable solicitations.

The purpose of the charities registration program and the Annual Report on Charitable Solicitations is to protect the public's interest. Public disclosure helps in making informed choices as to which charitable causes should be supported, and it increases public faith in legitimate charities. The registry and annual report help potential donors decide which charitable organizations are worthy of their support and help charitable organizations make informed decisions when contracting with paid solicitors. The entire registry of charities and fundraisers filings is available on the Secretary of State's web site through a searchable database at www.checkthecharity.com.

The 2017 annual report is available as a series of downloadable Excel files. These files present summary data on charitable solicitations activity in Colorado during 2017 and list the short-term and long-term results of solicitation campaigns run by each paid solicitor.

Also print and save a digital copy and email to documents@ccparentscouncil.org.

Answering questions last minute will be very difficult as all Treasurers and T-Advisory have full time jobs. We will do our best to assist, but we have provided everyone with training and videos to help as much as possible BEFOREHAND to respect our personal time. Please call the main organizations involved when necessary (IRS/CO SOS) or ask past treasurers for their advice, using their past tax returns as guidance.
